Your Alternator Charges Your Automotive Battery 

Alternators are used in modern vehicles to charge the battery and to power the electrical system when the engine is running. Early automobiles used DC generators. Alternators have several advantages over direct-current generators. They are simpler, lighter, less costly and more rugged.

More importantly, there are a few signs you should recognize when your alternator isn’t functioning properly or is “about to die”. Progressively, your engine may be sluggish in starting, then your radio cuts out. Next, Your dashlights and headlights will fade. Finally your engine will miss and quit. Attempts to start your car will likely result in nothing more than a clicking sound.

This process can often be mistaken for a failing battery.
