All Season Tires

All season tires are designed to handle any type of weather. Unlike summer tires, all season tires won’t leave you spinning in the snow, although they are not recommended for severe snow and ice conditions. Their reinforced sidewalls keep the tire shoulders on the road, while microgrooves help provide biting edges that lock together, enabling better grip when turning on wet roads.

Questions and Answers

Question: What is the difference between an all-season and winter tire?
Answer: The biggest difference between an all-season and winter tire is the rubber compound that is used. Winter tires use a much softer rubber compound to maintain their flexibility in colder weather. Winter tires have wider circumferential grooves which enhance winter traction by providing efficient channels to drain water and expel snow.All-season tires are constructed of very different rubber compounds.  These compounds are “averaged” to deliver better wear and good traction in a wide range of conditions, but the trade-off is a decrease in traction below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. This is the point where all-season tire compounds begin to harden and lose traction.

Question: What is the difference between all season and summer tires?
Answer: Summer tires are designed for hotter weather, providing maximum traction.
Summer tire tread design ranges from orbital grooves, to complex directional patterns, promoting various levels of handling in summer driving conditions. All season tires feature a blend of technologies that make use of different compounds and detailed tread configurations, designed for most driving conditions like snow, rain, heat, cold etc. All-season tires come in two classes: Passenger Tires and Touring Tires. Passenger Tires feature a smoother ride and longer tread -life while Touring Tires offer low noise and enhanced handling characteristics.
