U-Joints

Your U-Joint or Universal Joint Allows Flexibility between the tie Rods and Your Wheels

universal jointuniversal couplingU joint, Cardan jointHardy-Spicer joint, or Hooke’s joint is a joint or coupling in a rigid rod that allows the rod to ‘bend’ in any direction, and is commonly used in shafts that transmit rotary motion. It consists of a pair of hinges located close together, oriented at 90° to each other, connected by a cross shaft.

In the case of your vehicle, the U-joint is attached to your tie rods to allow flexibility for the wheels.

If you are experiencing noisy turns, vibration while driving or difficulty steering, it’s time to have your U joints inspected.
